If you do not require an active monitoring system, FutureCast Passive allows for sites to install a full grid and sensor system for eventual use when the roofing system deteriorates or is damaged, resulting in a discovered leak. SMT technicians can provide temporary electronics for a yearly or periodic maintenance scan.

How does FutureCast work
Our system tracks long-term moisture trends to tell the difference between real leaks and false positives—like those caused by HVAC systems, construction activity, or power issues.

The more seasonal data we collect, the more accurate the system becomes.
Sensor layout is customized for each project, depending on the building’s design and how detailed the monitoring needs to be.

1. Clear Deck with Membrane
The roof deck is cleared of any debris to prep for system install.
When installing the network, technicians will account for all anchors, drains, vents and other deck obstacles as encountered.

2. EFT Grid Applied
Inverted Roof Systems are always wet, SMT uses Electrical Field Tape (EFT) to electrify the roof deck in search for membrane breaches. It is applied to the upper surface of the waterproof membrane and defines the area that we monitor.

3. DigiStar Sensors Placed
The grid is then fitted with DigiStars, a sensor which uses the electricity provided by the EFT.

In the event of a leak, DigiStars will work with EFT to point to a deficiency in the membrane and identify where there is a path of moisture leading to the protected steel or concrete substrate.
Augmented Reality
FutureCast Active enables cutting edge data visualisation - allowing maintenance teams to "see through" the membrane in real time, as the moisture sensors in the roof assembly show where moisture has accumulated. This aids repair efforts and cuts down on costly removal of the upper layers of the assembly.
Virtual Reality Tour
The same roof performance data can be viewed in Virtual Reality right from your desktop, so you can keep track of large and remote sites without leaving the office.
